The countdown has begun! This Saturday we are heading out on our first Twenty One group ride, led by ex-professional cyclist Sammy Munday.
A 90 km route with 1,150 m elevation gain
Saturday 19 March - 9,30H
Celrà - Flaçà - Banyoles - La Mota - Canet d’Adri
Easy to moderate
Meeting point: c/ Força 4, Girona
This undulating route starts in Girona and loops north, passing through Flaçà and Banyoles. We’ve planned in something for everyone, rolling hills, quiet country lanes and beautiful scenery.
Our favourite way to start the weekend.
From Girona, we will set out northbound towards the town of Celrà, before turning left and venturing along the calm narrow roads that snake between beautiful hamlets and villages. We will then pass through the scenic towns of l’Emporda-Bordils and Flaçà before heading west, where we will start to gain some elevation, but nothing too taxing: a moderate gradient of up to 10%, but only for 100-200m at a time.
We will then continue heading west towards Banyoles, riding between beautiful green open valleys, some of our favourite in the Girona area. Rolling down into Banyoles, we’ll ride alongside the town’s impressive lake taking in the stunning views, where we can also stop for a mid-ride coffee if the mood takes us.
Then, from Banyoles we’ll ride on to Camós over the rolling hills, taking advantage of the descents to give us momentum for the next climb. The route then descends into Palio de Revardit before taking a right turn up the short, yet somewhat challenging La Mota climb.
It is around 4 km in length with an average gradient of 5%, pitching to a maximum of around 8%. From here, the descent leads us along some narrow roads towards Canet d’Adri, offering views of our hometown of Girona.
We’ll then descend again into the town of Sant Gregori and ride a final flat 7 km back into Girona, ending the ride with a well-deserved coffee and cake at one of the city’s cyclist-friendly cafés.
Meet us at c/Força n.4 on Saturday, 19 March at 9,30H.
We’ll be waiting for you!
Let’s ride!
